In Greek mythology, Eros, more commonly known as Cupid, was the mischievous, cherubic son of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, but it also just so happens to be the name of a tiny, heart-shaped and largely unsung isle of the Saronic Gulf, just a stone’s throw from Athens. Previously called Daskalio, this small island attracts Greek and international couples alike all year long, dethroning destination wedding staples such as Santorini and becoming the most sought-after location for intimate ceremonies celebrating love.

The uninhabited islet is accessible only by boat via the nearby Poros port – making for the most romantic entrance a bride can have, walking down the small wooden pier, towards the Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, surrounded by pine trees and crystal-clear waters.

Greek cinema movie buffs might also recognize Eros from the 1960 comedy film The Mayoress, starring Georgia Vasileiadou. The island found popularity again after a 2002 Greek National Tourism Organization campaign, highlighting its heart shape and idyllic surroundings, making it a fairytale wedding destination for locals and visitors from abroad.

Those interested in holding a ceremony on Eros are advised to reach out for all relevant arrangements and guest boat transport to local planners on Poros island.
