Athens Metro Line 4 construction is making significant progress. According to Mr. Kouretas, CEO of Elliniko Metro S.A, work is active at 25 of the 26 planned sites, with only the Rizari station location on hold due to legal issues.

Athens and Thessaloniki are both experiencing major developments in their metro systems. While Athens’ Line 4 is advancing rapidly, Thessaloniki’s metro is set to open on November 30th.

In Athens, two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are making headway. TBM Athena has already tunneled over two kilometers and will soon reach Zografou station. TBM Niki is expected to arrive at Alsos Veikou station within a month. Despite the challenges of working in a busy urban environment, the team is overcoming obstacles and moving forward.

Thessaloniki’s metro is in its final preparation stages before the public launch. System tests and evaluations are being finalized. Following this, work will begin on extending the metro to Kalamaria, adding five new stations by October 2025. Future plans include expansions to the west (Ampelokipoi, Evosmos, and Lagada Street) and eastward from Kalamaria to Thessaloniki airport.

These projects represent significant upgrades to public transportation in Greece’s two largest cities, promising improved mobility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
