Greece is considering introducing a medical visa for foreign visitors seeking healthcare services. This topic was recently discussed by Giorgos Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association, and Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.
The proposed “Medi Visa” would be a short-term visa for travelers interested in health and wellness services in Greece. Patoulis, who also leads the Greek Health Tourism Council, also known as Elitour, has been advocating for this visa, which could combine medical care with travel and senior tourism opportunities.
Elitour has also suggested creating certified medical facilities within high-end hotels, which would need to meet strict criteria to apply for certification.
During their meeting, Georgiadis expressed interest in the proposals and indicated that the ministry would investigate them in the near future.
At a recent health travel conference in Athens, experts revealed that over €1 billion in EU funding had been approved for developing a medical visa and other health tourism-related initiatives.
