The Greek government has introduced a new tax incentive aimed at combating tax evasion and promoting the use of electronic payments for home renovation and maintenance services. Under this scheme, taxpayers can potentially save up to 3,200 euros by making electronic payments to various technical professionals such as electricians, plasterers, painters, and plumbers.

This initiative allows homeowners to claim tax deductions for a wide range of home improvement works, including energy efficiency upgrades, functional improvements, and aesthetic renovations. However, to qualify for these deductions, the payments must be made electronically and be supported by proper documentation such as receipts or invoices.

The tax benefit is structured as a long-term incentive, with the deductions spread over a five-year period. For instance, if a homeowner spends 500 euros on a plumbing installation, they could save approximately 120 euros in VAT and receive a total tax deduction of 496 euros over the years 2025-2029.

This policy aims to encourage formal transactions in sectors traditionally prone to undeclared work, while also supporting homeowners in maintaining and improving their properties. The scheme covers a broad spectrum of home improvement works, from energy-efficient upgrades like thermal insulation and heating system improvements to more general renovations like painting and flooring.

Tax deduction applies to energy-related works and functional or aesthetic works related to residences.

More specifically:

• Installation of thermal insulation

• Replacement of frames, windows, and external protective shutters

•Installation or upgrade of heating-cooling systems and renovation of infrastructure to make the system fully functional

• Installation of automatic control devices for heating-cooling system operation

• Installation of electricity self-production system (energy offsetting)

• Installation of electronic storage systems (batteries) when combined with photovoltaic systems

• Installation of hot water production system using Renewable Energy Sources (RES)

• Installation of mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery
