15,200 millionaires from China are planning their exit from the country, with the UK a close second, losing 9,500 ultra-wealthy residents – over double the number that left Britain last year, as stated in the Henley Private Wealth Migration Report.

This increase in millionaire departures is a continuation of a Brexit-related shift. In the last five years, the UK lost 16,500 millionaires, with affluent American nationals following suit in search of second citizenships that can ensure socioeconomic stability. Recent geopolitical tensions and developments, deep social divides and financial uncertainty are driving foreign millionaires to relocate, with many of them choosing Greece to call home.

According to the Henley report, Greece ranks among the top ten countries worldwide thanks to its competitive Golden Visa scheme, with approximately 1,100 millionaires settling here in 2023 and another 1,200 expected to arrive in 2024. Since the program’s inception, an estimated 24,000 properties have been acquired, amounting to a minimum investment of €6 million. Currently, Golden Visa applications in Greece are experiencing a surge ahead of upcoming investment changes to the scheme, with wealthy American individuals looking to diversify their citizenship and residency options.
