On April 22, the Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, and the Ambassador of the United States to Greece, George Tsounis, inaugurated American Space Piraeus, a new multipurpose venue for technology and culture, set up on the 3rd floor of the Central Municipal Library of Piraeus. A collaborative effort between the Municipality of Piraeus and the U.S Embassy in Greece, American Space Piraeus is an innovative cultural and informational center that promotes mutual understanding and will provide the public with reliable, accurate and detailed information abut the United States of America. All activities of the American Space Piraeus, from educational programs to cultural events such as as book presentations, film screenings, exhibitions, and lectures will be provided to the general public completely free of charge.

Greetings at the event were addressed by Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus and Faliro, the Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, Ambassador George Tsounis of the United States to Greece, and Vangelis Marinakis, President of Olympiacos FC, as well as Olympic champion Carli Lloyd and American Soccer Hall of Fame member Cobi Jones.

A smaller hub called American Space Piraeus Pop-Up within the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium was also introduced, where fans can source information about educational opportunities in the US. Additionally, they will have access to computers, books, magazines, free WI-FI and the ability to watch United States matches from opening hours till Olympiacos games’ kickoffs.
